Since school went on break, the UG campus has gone “dead” but from next Wednesday, August 17, till December, the entertainment atmosphere will be charged with the series of activities lined up.

The main source of entertainment at UG is hall week events. Hall weeks are entertainment programmes organised by the Junior Common Room (JCR) of the various residential halls on the campus.

During the semester, eight out of the 14 residential halls at UG would celebrate their hall weeks.

They are Alex Kwapong Hall, Akuafo Hall, Elizabeth Sey Hall and Jubilee Hall/International Students' Hostel (ISH).

The rest are Evandy Hall, Bani Hall, Jean Nelson Hall and Mensah Sarbah Hall.

The week long celebrations are interspersed with entertainment and fun activities like health walk, clean-up exercise, sports activities, seminars, youth empowerment programmes, fun games, fashion shows and concerts

These activities serve as platforms for aspiring musicians, fashion designers among others studying at the university to sell their brands.

The Students' Representative Council (SRC) is also expected to put together their annual SRC Week celebrations which always record a huge turnout.

Speaking with Showbiz last Monday, Ms Stephanie Akrumah, the Vice President of Jubilee Hall said all the halls are ready to provide quality entertainment shows in the first semester of the 2016/2017 academic year.

“All the halls with week celebrations are putting in a lot of effort to have the best hall week on campus. People should expect nothing but the best from all the halls especially  Jubilee Hall,” she stated.

When this writer pointed it out to her that poor organisation of some of the hall week celebrations has resulted in low patronage, Ms Akrumah said “ Yes,  the Hall Week celebrations need to be repackaged. We are planning to make it the best ever. We are bringing the crème de la crème to campus. Students should watch out for Jubilee Hall dubbed, 'Fresh affair'", she promised.

When Showbiz caught up with popular University of Ghana student cum musician, Poncho, he said he envisions another great semester in his music career.

"I thank God for how far he has brought me. My music is really growing with lots of fresh grooves for my fans. I look forward to the various hall weeks. The organisers should come on board so we can support one another.

“ Legon is our home and I'm always ready to come home with the best so that's what they should expect from me", he added.
