The town, which is one of the settlements on the banks of Lake Volta, is home to the famous Adomi Bridge and is known for its scenic views and historic significance.

The Adomi Bridge is Ghana's longest suspension bridge and the first permanent bridge over the Volta Lake to connect the Eastern Region and the Volta Region. It was officially opened in 1957 to replace the ferry service at Senchi, a town close by.

Atimpoku is situated close to the Akosombo Dam and Akwamufie, the seat of the Akwamu Traditional Area, which is on the other side of the river. For travellers along the Accra – Ho route, it is a popular rest stop where commuters can buy local delicacies such as fried lobsters, fried yam and turkey tail (chofi), as well as ‘abolo’ and tiny fishes, popularly called ‘one man thousand’.

The main economic activities are fishing, farming and trading

Currently, there are a number of resorts and tourist locations along the lake, making Atimpoku a popular destination for water sports and relaxation. Visitors can also enjoy the scenic views of Volta Lake, explore the local markets, and experience the warm hospitality of the people.
