GHOne unleashes 6 unsung artistes

The remarkable strides that MzVee, winner of the maiden edition of the VGMA Unsung category, has been making in music circles since she won the title almost one year ago, has been the best testimony that the idea has been worth it.

Started in Koforidua at the 2014 edition of the VGMA’s, the Unsung category is designed to give underground talents that enviable opportunity to rock with the big boys on the big stage  at the main event night of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

After a careful review of all recommendations and entries, the 16th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Unsung category, driven by GhOne entertainment TV is going to be a no holds barred battle between Koo Ntakra, Nero X, Dark Suburb, Kingzkid, Luther, Mz Yankeey, the organisers, Charterhouse, say.

Koo Ntakra stunned everyone when he first appeared on a music reality TV show with his indigenous Akuapim rap finesse. Koo Ntakra has a way of making the Akuapim language sound romantic and when he won the 2013 edition of the show, everyone agreed with the decision. Will the Akuapim rapper emerge as the 2015 unsung artiste to mount that big stage come April 11, 2015?

How about Nero X? Many were surprised at his decision to go as an unsung artiste, especially when his single Osey is enjoying good reviews and rotation on air; but this decision portrays a hardworking side of this unsung artiste.

Nero X has been relentless since he won the maiden edition of another music reality TV show and has kept his head up since the get go.

Then comes the faceless, mysterious and talented Dark Suburb. They call themselves Ghana’s alternative rock band and has a unique way of marrying three exceptional art forms, poetry, music and dance.

At their Awakening early this year concert, many were left stunned as they wondered what surprises this group could bring.

Dark Suburb have performed at the Republic Bar, Reggie’s Django, University of Ghana and at the launch of The 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

And then there is Luther. Probably the only Reggae/ Dancehall act in the pack. A two-time Bass Awards nominee and the Best Male Vocalist for 2014/2015, Luther is known for his hit single, Slow Down, which has been widely played.

Now enter the young man you can easily confuse for a hiphop/hiplife artiste, but no, he is a full-fledged gospel act. Born Emmanuel Essuman-Mensah, Kingzkid says he is the first Ghanaian to introduce gospel music through different genres, like Azonto, Pop and Electro gospel music.

His hit song, I Got My Jesus on, became a swag term among Christian youth and was used as inscriptions on T shirts proudly won by young men and women.

Mz Yankeey is the only lady in the squad. She is a talented singer and choreographer with 13 years experience in showbiz.

Still not convinced that she deserves a place as the opening act on April 11, check out her five  singles and three videos recently released and making waves on social media and you just might agree, that the one woman among the brothers, just might sweep the spot.

These six unique talents are waiting for their chance to shine on the big stage. Thanks to sponsors KFC, one of these talents will get that opportunity of a lifetime to perform on a VGMA stage. Who gets the nod?
