Apple Music launches ‘Trotro Vibes” to celebrate Ghanaian music

The month of March is quite significant on Ghana’s calendar since it is the month that holds Ghana’s Independence Day celebration and in its honour, music and video streaming service, Apple Music has launched a one-month- musical campaign called Trotro Vibes.

This campaign is aimed at honouring Ghana’s rising and established artistes and the impact they have on a global scale.

As such, Apple Music’s editorial team has selected exclusive playlists of Ghanaian music including Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Efya, and M.anifest for users across the globe.

The “new school” team of Camidoh, Cina Soul, Yaw Tog, Kwesi Arthur, Black Sherif and King Promise is equally represented.

Tshwanelo Maredi, Sub-Saharan Africa music editor at Apple music, shared the news via her LinkedIn account on Tuesday, March 6, which marked Ghana’s Independence Day.

“To celebrate Independence Day in Ghana, Apple Music is honouring Ghana’s Independence with Trotro vibes to celebrate the artists that have grown to become a thriving industry for young creatives today,” Maredi said.

Named after Ghana’s popular means of transport, Trotro, “Trotro Vibes” will also feature music content, original interviews and what Apple Music calls ‘essential releases’ from the artistes who propel the culture forward.

“Named after the minibus public transport system that acts as carrier of conversation, culture and connection, Trotro Vibes celebrates the sound of the street, featuring sounds from Ghana’s new school- and it’s your road map to the country’s most dynamic emerging artistes,” a statement from Apple Music said.

The release also mentioned that “Trotro Vibes” will highlight the sounds of Ghana today, both classic and contemporary–from traditional styles like highlife and hiplife to Afrobeats and Asaaka drill scenes that cross borders and break boundaries.
