Berima Amo honoured by Lovers of Highlife Gh

Lovers of Highlife GH, a Highlife advocacy group, has honoured Amsterdam based composer and cultural ambassador, Berima Amo for his contributions to the genre.

The group honoured him with a citation and an award at this year’s International Amofest 2025 held at Alliance Francaise on Saturday, July 5. 

As an organisation dedicated to preserving Ghanaian Highlife in all its forms and honouring highlife legends, Lovers of Highlife GH citation recognises Berima Amo's outstanding dedication to the preservation, revitalisation, and global promotion of Ghanaian highlife music. 

With a career spanning decades, Berima Amo has emerged as a leading voice in the revival of highlife music, masterfully fusing it with Afrobeats, jazz, classical, and soul to breathe new life into the genre and tell the Ghanaian story.

As the founder of Better Music Africa, he has spearheaded bold projects like the Highlife Restoration Project, music industry workshops across Europe, South America and Africa, and founded the Osaberima Big Band - Ghana's first big band revival in over three decades. 

Through his recordings with the Ghana-based AfroBand and his Netherlands-based band, Berima Amo has inspired a new generation to cherish Ghana's musical heritage.

The citation reads: "With humility, artistry, and a deep love for the culture of his homeland, Berima Amo stands as a true ambassador of highlife music. It is with profound admiration and heartfelt gratitude that we present this citation to him - for his artistry, his leadership, and his enduring commitment to the soul of Ghanaian music."

Berima Amo's achievement shows his passion, dedication, and innovative approach to Ghanaian music.
