Blame citizens for floods not government, says MzVee

Renowned Ghanaian musician, MzVee, has come to the defense of government and accusing citizens for the “curse” of perennial flooding that the country is plunged into.

According to the ‘Come and See My Moda” artiste, irresponsible waste disposal particularly that of plastic waste and bottles by citizens, has been the major cause of recurrent flooding, rather than government’s inaction to the situation.

Speaking in a recent interview on Property FM in Cape Coast, MzVee born Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda, expressed concerns about flooding and its threats on the lives of citizens.

She acknowledged that although government bore some responsibility due to the lack of proper drainage system, the citizens couldn’t be absolved of the problems since their disregard for safety and indiscriminate way of living were major cause of flooding.

“Our drainage system is really horrible and the government has to look at that. We can’t blame everything on the government although the government is to be blamed a lot but I feel the citizens must also take the blame.

“If you see the amount of plastic bottles, I don’t think the government came to put them there, so I think we’re all to blame for these things,” she said.

She went on to highlight the role of citizens in curbing the problem by their improper disposal of waste, particularly plastic bottles and urged for a sense of responsibility on the part of citizens to fight the issue of floods in the country.
