Cardi B wins $1.2m in defamation case against Tasha K

Cardi B and Tasha K have agreed to a bankruptcy settlement payment plan. Following a $4 million defamation judgment the 32-year-old rapper won in 2022, the blogger, born Latasha Kebe, will pay Cardi nearly $1.2 million over the next five years in monthly installments under the Chapter 11 reorganization plan approved by a judge, Rolling Stone reports.

Kebe’s payments will start at $176,532 in the first year and increase to $318,653 by the fifth year over a 12-month period.

Although the plan covers less than the full judgment, Cardi retains the right to pursue the remaining balance after five years, potentially allowing her to garnish Kebe’s wages again.

She also agreed not to make “derogatory, disparaging, or defamatory” comments about Cardi or her family on any platform, including her podcasts and social media accounts.

Rolling Stone also notes the agreement doesn’t bar Cardi from making statements about Kebe.

“Today marks the end of a multi-year long chapter of lies, deception, and fraudulent conveyance on the part of Tasha K, her husband, and their entities,” said Cardi’s lawyer, Lisa Moore, in a statement to Rolling Stone.

“We are thrilled to put in place such an incredibly unprecedented and protective plan for Cardi. I assume you will see the debtor and her swill counsel selling this as a win,” she added. “Trust me, for all of the reasons in the plan we insisted on to protect our client, that is not the case. We don’t believe the false tears, and we protect against them.”

Cardi, born Belcalis Almánzar, filed a libel and defamation lawsuit against Kebe in 2019 after the blogger falsely claimed that she had herpes, used cocaine, and worked as a prostitute.

The Invasion of Privacy rapper took the stand in 2022 and testified that Kebe’s claims left her feeling “extremely suicidal.” Elsewhere in her testimony, Cardi claimed the rumors made her feel like she couldn’t sleep with her husband Offset and that she didn’t “deserve” her daughter Kulture.

She also said that she went to therapy due to the toll of the claims made in Kebe’s videos through her Unwine With Tasha K YouTube channel.

Cardi’s legal team also accused Kebe of trying to hide her assets during bankruptcy proceedings in 2023, with the blogger initially claiming her biggest asset was a 2021 Chevy Silverado worth less than $59,000.

The repayment plan hinges on her future earnings, including income from her husband Cheick Kebe’s company, Yelen Entertainment.
