Don’t lower standards for marriage - Jessica Larny
One of the challenges that entertainers, especially actresses face, is getting married. While their male counterparts seem to have it easy doing that, the opposite is the case for the females.
Some of the blame has been laid at the feet of the actresses with critics saying their standards are too high and they need to manage their expectations.
However actress and boudoir model, Jessica Larny, whose relationships have also suffered due to this perception, says actresses should not lower their standards because of a 'wifey' title.
“I will not say people should lower their standards because of love or marriage, lowering your standards means you fall for just anything and that is not good. For me, that perception, which most often is not the truth, is doing us a lot of harm.
“However, that is only one aspect of the reasons we go through what we go through. The other side is the time factor, often we don’t even have time for ourselves to talk of having time to invest in our relationships.
“Who says the men don’t want us or they leave because of standards, there is somebody for everyone. We all know that a relationship requires a lot of time and attention and that is what we usually do not have.
"Look at me, I have been on set since October and I’m currently on a two-month break after which I will go back so if you are with me and do not understand the nature of the job and we do not find a common ground, things may not work out,” she told Graphic Showbiz.

Jessica Larny also explained that not lowering one’s standards doesn’t mean being arrogant and disrespectful. “Not lowering your standard means knowing what you want, your worth and not falling for just anything.
“But there is also a thin line between that and being disrespectful. When you find that person, continue giving the person the respect that he deserves, treat him well and vice versa.”
For her, because of the demands of their job, it is no news that some of her colleagues prefer being single parents. “Due to our inability to have time for ourselves and other people in our lives, before you know it, time is passed and so some prefer to just have a kid and move on.”
In spite of all the challenges, Jessica is happy that she currently has someone who understands her. “I have learnt my lessons over time so this time around, I am working around the clock to put in my best in my relationship.
“The little time I get, I spend it with him and there are other measures I have in place in case I will be away for long. Sometimes, it is just the efforts, my partner, on the other hand, compromises on a lot of things for me and I think we are good.”
Anyone following Jessica on social media will notice that it’s been a while she posted any of the scintillating pictures of her work as a boudoir model and she said it was due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Since the pandemic came, events have been put on hold, no gallery has been showing events so we are not able to work more but then I have lots of works that are yet to be edited,” she explained.

She is part of the cast for new series Dede, airing on Akwaaba Magic on DStv, and Jessica said apart from having fun on set, she had learnt a lot.
“Being on set was fun because the series has some funny characters but I learnt a lot from people I have always admired in the movie industry such as David Dontoh, Anita Erskine etc. It was great being on this team and I want to use this opportunity to ask people to watch it.”
