EDITOR'S LENS: Congratulations Dzifa Gomashie!!!

BIG congratulations to Dzifa Abla Gomashie on her nomination as Minister designate for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts.

Conversations among industry players prior to her being given the nod showed she was the popular choice and her nomination by President John Mahama was a well-deserved recognition of her dedication to the sector and experience over the years.

Being a creative herself with many years of skill as an actress and seasoned politician, as well as serving as a former Deputy Minister of same portfolio she has been nominated, Dzifa Gomashie brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

Over the years, creative players have shown that they aren’t walkovers and have been vocal about their demands with the goal of growing the sector.

Dzifa Gomashie herself had her fair share of the “heat” when she served as Deputy Minister between 2013-2017.

The most important thing to note is that expectations are high, and rightly so. Ghana's tourism industry has shown tremendous potential, with initiatives such as the 'Year of Return' and 'Beyond the Return' attracting significant international interest and investment.

Even though the initiative was started by the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, as minister she will be tasked with building on this momentum, driving further growth and promoting Ghana as a premier destination for heritage tourism.

For Graphic Showbiz, we expect Dzifa Gomashie to leverage her expertise and network to among other things spearhead the enhancement of tourism infrastructure by upgrading and developing tourist facilities, roads and amenities to improve the overall tourist experience, promote cultural heritage by showcasing Ghana's rich cultural diversity, preserving historical sites and supporting cultural events and festivals.

However, it shouldn’t all be about tourism and culture units but the creative sector too. Many times, the attention of the creative sector has been limited to movies and music.

In the last few years, fashion, comedy, fine arts, among other sectors of the industry have been gaining recognition and acclaim both locally and internationally and deserve utmost attention too.

We are confident that she will be approved by Parliament after vetting and as Dzifa Gomashie prepares to take on her new role, we offer our warmest congratulations, best wishes and support.

We are confident her leadership will propel the industry to new heights, creating opportunities for economic growth, cultural exchange and national pride.
