Asamoah Gyan joins John Terry and Bacary Sagna on SuperSport's World Cup panel

Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan, the highest-scoring African player in World Cup history, has been named among an elite panel of football royalty assembled by SuperSport for its coverage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The tournament, which kicks off on Thursday, June 11, 2026, will be the largest in history, featuring 48 teams playing 104 matches across the United States, Canada and Mexico. SuperSport, a subsidiary of MultiChoice Group and a CANAL+ company, has recruited a tactical powerhouse panel to guide viewers through the unprecedented tournament.

Gyan headlines African legends

Gyan, who famously powered Ghana to the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, will provide explosive insights as part of a star-studded African contingent. He is joined by Ivorian forward Salomon Kalou, a 2015 Africa Cup of Nations champion and UEFA Champions League winner; current Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, the Most Valuable Player of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations; and South African legend Siphiwe Tshabalala, author of the iconic thunderous opening goal of the 2010 tournament.

The African panel also includes former Bafana Bafana captain Bongani Khumalo, Teko Modise, Banyana Banyana legend Amanda Dlamini, Stanton Fredericks, Shaun Bartlett, Jimmy Tau and Simphiwe Dludlu.

Global football royalty

Joining the African legends are global football royalty. John Terry, the ultimate Chelsea captain who secured five Premier League titles and the 2012 UEFA Champions League, brings his defensive mastery and elite mentality to the studio. He is joined by his former rival Bacary Sagna, the elite right-back who dominated the Premier League with Arsenal and Manchester City while representing France at two World Cups.

Roberto Di Matteo, who achieved legend status at Chelsea as both a world-class midfielder and the manager who delivered the club's first European crown, also joins the panel.

Most accessible World Cup ever

For the first time, the tournament will be available in its entirety to DStv subscribers from DStv Access through to DStv Premium, making it the most accessible World Cup ever staged for MultiChoice Group customers across English and Portuguese-speaking African countries.

SuperSport will broadcast all 104 matches live, with highlights and immediate repeats. The tournament runs from 11th June in Mexico City to the 19th July final in New Jersey.

The Morning Cup launch

To match the scale of the tournament, SuperSport has launched "The Morning Cup," a brand-new live daily broadcast described as an electrifying collision of football, culture, music, entertainment and unapologetic conversation. Anchored by presenters Lwazi Ziqubu and Fiso Mazibuko, the show features a pan-African roster of co-hosts including Phat Joe, Nigerian comedy icon Basketmouth, award-winning Kenyan actress Sarah Hassan, and Egyptian-Jamaican sports presenter Sirayah Shiraz.

Unrivalled coverage

Rendani Ramovha, Director for Sports Content in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa at CANAL+, said: "The 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to be the most spectacular tournament in football history, and our broadcast offering completely reflects that unprecedented scale."

He added: "We are incredibly proud to assemble what is undoubtedly the most formidable, star-studded tactical panel ever seen on African television. By bringing global heavyweights like John Terry and Bacary Sagna, as well as African legends Siphiwe Tshabalala and Asamoah Gyan, together with our revered continental pioneers and world-class homegrown analysts, we are delivering an unmatched, immersive experience."

Ghana's World Cup campaign

Ghana, one of ten African nations at the tournament, will begin their Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, followed by England on June 23 in Boston and Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia. Gyan's presence on the SuperSport panel will ensure expert analysis of the Black Stars' performances from a man who scored at three World Cups and remains Africa's all-time leading scorer in the tournament's history.

The opening game of the tournament sees hosts Mexico take on South Africa on Thursday, June 11, live on SuperSport at 8:00pm GMT. Viewers will also have access to free viewing for the first ten minutes of matches on YouTube. SuperSport has also deployed content creators, presenters and analysts on the ground in the Americas to provide comprehensive on-location coverage.
