FIPAG reacts to Kofi Adjorlolo's '7 producers owe me' allegation

The Film Producers Association of Ghana (FIPAG) has reacted to veteran Ghanaian actor, Kofi Adjorlolo’s allegation that many movie producers were owing him and many other actors huge sums of money.

Mr Adjorlolo had alleged that movie actors in Ghana don’t respect actors and hence their refusal to pay them after work.

But in a press statement, reacting to the allegation, FIPAG said "his [Adjorlolo] attitude and that of some individuals are bringing the name of the industry into disrepute.”

“FIPAG has never received any of such complaints from him [Adjorlolo] nor ever had the opportunity to learn it from any quarters.”

“It is however mind-boggling as to why he behaved the way he did in the said interview. With his failure to back his claims with any tangible fact, FIPAG hereby deems it fit for him to render an unqualified apology to film producers and the industry within 14 days,” the press statement issued on Thursday, February 6, 2020, and signed by FIPAG President, James Aboagye stated.

It added: “his conduct has cast a slur on film producers in the country and for that matter, the film industry,"

FIPAG insisted that Mr Adjorlolo will be sanctioned if he does not apologise

In the interview with the TV station, Joy News, Mr Adjorlolo alleged that movie producers owe him and other actors sums of money and has refused to pay them.

"Old man like me they call me to come and work and they can't pay me. About seven producers they owe me money...Why? About seven producers in Ghana here, they owe me monies. Why? And then I’m sitting at home and I’m hungry and when I’m sick nobody... look we have elderly people sick lying there and producers owe them; they don’t even give them money. Why?” he fumed.

He also expressed his displeasure at the treatment being meted out to him and his older colleagues but failed to mention the producers whom he claimed owed him, but said the amounts were in the thousands.

Our attention has been drawn to a recent interview granted by Kofi Adjololo to Ibrahim Brako of Joy Prime, a subsidiary of the Multimedia Group Ltd.

In the said interview, Mr Adjololo alleged that some movie producers owe him some money and therefore, decided to descend heavily on film producers without naming a single producer.

His conduct has cast a slur on film producers in the country and for that matter, the film industry.

His attitude and that of some individuals are bringing the name of the industry into disrepute.

FIPAG has never received any of such complaints from him nor ever had the opportunity to learn it from any quarters. It is however mind-boggling as to why he behaved the way he did in the said interview

With his failure to back his claims with any tangible fact, FIPAG hereby deems it fit for him to render an unqualified apology to film producers and the industry within 14 days.

Failure to do so would see the Association advice itself on his status and positioning in the film industry.

In that regard, FIPAG is hereby issuing a strong warning to groups or individuals in the industry who have made it their business to slander the industry anytime the opportunity is given to them to talk on the state of the Ghanaian film industry.
