Ghana Rocks - A night of mixed fortunes
It will be quite difficult to say who had the loudest cheer at this year’s Ghana Rocks concert held last Friday at the Accra International Conference Centre because on the night a good number of artistes received good responses from the audience while others did not.

The likes of 4X4, Joey B, Sarkodie, R2Bees and Shatta Wale had great cheers from the audience who seemed not to have enough of them.
4X4 came on with DJ Nii Ayi Tagoe and they thrilled everyone with hits from their repertoire, both old and new.
Just like others who have been mentioned, they had everyone on their feet throughout the time they were on stage.
Joey B was equally impressive as has been his hallmark lately. Just as the audience were expecting him to do his hit song Tonga, he left the stage but came back later with Sarkodie to do it for them. What a wonderful surprise it was.
But should it come as a surprise to anyone if Ghana’s fastest rapper, Sarkodie, gets an amazing response from the audience who were mainly made up of young folks?
They screamed at his entry and rapped along with him throughout his time on stage, while others just made their way to the front of the stage to have a good feel of him and take pictures of him.
The story was not different when R2Bees took their turn on stage. The audience were on cloud nine and sang every song along with them.
At some point, R2Bees just allowed the audience to do the singing and it was real fun.
As is characteristic of most shows, the last act is usually of the hottest artiste and this time around, it was Shatta Wale and he was impressive.

He may not have done anything extraordinary but the crowd just loved him and were elated by his presence, making him the artiste of the moment. They hailed him, danced, and sang along with him. There couldn’t have been a better way to end the show.
It was unbelievable that acts like Edem and Eazzy did not get a good response from the audience. Everyone was just sitting and starring at them while they performed and one kept wondering why that was so.
It was not just the two of them but the British acts on the night, Dr Silver and Charsay also did not move the audience one bit. It seemed Charsay’s performance was somewhat better as he received some level of positive response.
Talking of UK acts, top British prime time radio deejay, Tim Westwood put up a spectacular performance dishing out hit song after hit song. He really knew the kind of songs his Ghanaian audience loved and he gave them just that.
The Ghanaian DJs who took turns were DJ Black, DJ Nii Ayi Tagoe and DJ Mensa and they were all spectacular. As expected, DJ Black fired up the venue and put everyone in the mood to party. He was the MC on the night as well.
