How Kwabena Kwabena sang over his sorrow ; to raise GH¢300,000 for troubled hearts

Highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has revealed that beneath all the oohs and aahs of appreciation that he received last Saturday  at his charity  Save-A-Life concert, he was performing under a heavy pall of sadness following the death of his father only six days earlier.

Although the death of his father affected him deeply, Kwabena Kwabena told Showbiz in an interview that he still had to go on with the show considering the amount of preparation  that had gone into  it.

“I was definitely not in the mood for merry-making but cancelling the show was not an option. I just had to put myself together and get on with the show,” he said.

Kwabena Kwabena explained to Showbiz that this was the reason he spent only a short period on stage and performed a limited number of songs, instead of the usual length of time patrons at the Save-A-Life concert have come to expect from him,

The Bue Kwan star said the concert, which was held to raise funds to take care of patients with heart conditions at the National Cardiothoracic Centre at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, was a success, managing to raise an amount of Ghc300, 000.

He said that although the amount raised could only fund the surgeries of 10 patients instead of the projected number of 20, he was still happy with the results.

“This is the beginning of the campaign so the amount we have been able to raise is very commendable.

“We set out to raise funds for the surgeries of 20 patients and right at the start we have made enough to take care of half of them,” he said.

He added that he was not neglecting the remaining 10 patients but he would be accepting donations throughout the year in order to get enough to fund the surgeries of the remaining patients.

“We are soliciting for funds all year round, that is from now until the next ‘Save A Life’ concert, so I believe in God that come next year October, which will be the next concert we will have the remaining 10 patients also saved,” he said.

“The general public can also support the initiative by texting ‘SAVE’ to short code 1962 or by visiting any Access Bank branch to also lend their support,” he added.

This year’s edition of the Save-A-Life concert was held at Adae Kese Hall of the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. Apart from Kwabena Kwabena, some of the artistes who performed at the event included Tagoe Sisters, Yaw Sarpong and Asomafo, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Stella Seal, Pat Thomas, M.anifest, Becca, and Samini.
