I am a businessman, not a politician — Nacee

FAMOUS sound engineer Nana Sei, known in showbiz as Nacee, may not have set out to be controversial but it seems his every move stirs up talk.

He was known for his amazing Gospel songs, then he recorded a secular album, The Counsellor, which earned him the displeasure of many.

It might have all started in 2016 when he was contracted to record the hit campaign song ‘Onaapo’ for then-President John Dramani Mahama.

He received a lot of bashing and even threats but Nacee, who has done songs for a lot of political parties, says he is willing to record songs for any party which needs his services.

“I am a businessman and not a politician. I record songs to feed my family and pay the bills. If Ghanaians have no problem with a carpenter who builds huge stages for political parties to stand on and do their campaigns, why should they have a problem with me recording songs for any political party?” he asked in an interview with Graphic Showbiz recently.

In spite of the backlash that met his work for President Mahama and the NDC, Nacee said he was not deterred and would not hesitate to do a song for any political party.

“I have in the past been approached by almost all the political parties to record songs for them; they were all hit songs and I got good money for that.

"In fact, I don’t care what anyone thinks of me if I record a song for any political party. At the end of the day I am a Ghanaian and I vote for the candidate I believe can move Ghana forward,” he said.

Asked if he had been approached this year by any political party, Nacee said no but he was very sure before December, he would have received a lot of deals from the political parties.

Away from politics, Nacee appealed to corporate bodies and individuals to support Gospel musicians when they came to them for sponsorship.

“With a little effort, a secular musician will get all the sponsorship he needs for an event, but that cannot be said of a Gospel musician,” he said.

Talking about his work as a musician and sound engineer, Nacee said it was not easy combining the two but he found time because he loved them both.

He is out with a brand new single, Bo No Ose, and the song has started receiving attention since it was released two weeks ago.

The award-winning sound engineer who has been around for more than a decade has recorded with almost all the A-list artistes in Ghana.
