I Told You So returns to National Theatre on May 1

Ghanaian actor and filmmaker, Fiifi Coleman is bringing back I Told You So for an encore performance at the National Theatre on Friday, May 1, following overwhelming patronage during its initial run in March.

The play, which was staged from March 5 to March 8, drew large crowds and generated positive reviews from theatre lovers who called for additional performances.

 In response to the growing demand, Fiifi Coleman Productions has announced a special return of the production those who missed the opportunity audiences the opportunity to experience the celebrated Ghanaian classic.

Speaking ahead of the encore, Fiifi Coleman expressed gratitude for the public support the production received during its first showing.

“The response to I Told You So was beyond our expectations. Audiences connected deeply with the story, the humour and the cultural message. Many people reached out asking for another chance to watch it, so we felt it was important to bring it back,” he said.

The production is a theatrical revival of the classic Ghanaian story that originated from the country’s concert party tradition before evolving into the iconic 1970 film directed by Egbert Adjesu. Inspired by the works of legendary dramatist, Bob Cole, I Told You So remains one of Ghana’s most influential stories, known for its humour, satire and social commentary.

Put together by Fiifi Coleman Productions in collaboration with the National Theatre, the play explores themes of love, marriage, identity, family expectations, morality and the tension between tradition and modernity.

The story follows Kobina Jones, a man who returns home after years abroad in search of love, only to confront difficult realities about culture, relationships and responsibility.

The production features a strong cast including Highlife legend Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, veteran actor Fred Amugi, comedian Clemento Suarez, actor Clement Bonney, Ken Fiati, Wofa Kay and Deaconess Abokomah.
