John Dumelo ‘returns’ to Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary Seat race

Popular Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo has disclosed his intentions to contest the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency parliamentary seat on the ticket of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a Facebook post yesterday, February 26, the father of two said he took the decision after extensive consultation with his family.

“After an extensive consultation with my God, my family and our party faithfuls in Ayawaso West Wuogon! This’s the second coming,” he posted.

Already, fliers of Dumelo is out and it is quite interesting that he will be competing against his friend, Phred Nuamah, who declared his intentions earlier in February.

John Dumelo ran a successful campaign in the 2020 general elections against the incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Even though the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat is thought to be a stronghold of the NPP, the actor gave a strong competition polling 37,778 votes against NPP’s Lydia’s who polled 39,851 votes.

After threatening to contest the results and ask for a recount, John later rescinded his decision and Ms Lydia was declared winner.

The NDC opened nominations for its Presidential and Parliamentary elections on Wednesday, February 22.

Since then, a number of prominent people in the party including former President John Dramani Mahama and Kwabena Duffour have officially declared to join the Presidential race.
