Joining Lynx will be a dream come true –Kojo Swain

FOR budding Ghanaian musician Kojo Swain, music is more than passion—it’s a calling. And while he is determined to make his mark as an independent artiste, his biggest dream is to someday join the powerhouse label Lynx Entertainment, home to stars like KiDi.

Swain, born Mbreye Kojo Baffoe, believes getting signed to a record label would help push his craft to the next level.

“Getting signed would mean the world to me. I admire Richie Mensah and the Lynx team a lot, and it would be a dream come true to be part of that family. But beyond Lynx, I’m open to any record label that truly believes in my talent and shares my vision,” he told Graphic Showbiz in a chat on Sunday, September 7.

So far, Kojo’s journey has been one of persistence and faith. He revealed that he once reached out to Richie Mensah via Instagram before releasing his debut EP, but never received a reply.

“I completely understand. He probably gets hundreds of messages every day. But I remain hopeful that one day I’ll get to meet him in person and share my music. I believe once he hears my songs, he will see my potential,” he said with conviction.

Despite not yet collaborating with any A-list artistes, Kojo is eager for that breakthrough. His biggest wish? To work with Kuami Eugene and Lasmid—two artistes whose artistry he deeply admires.

“I actually got Kuami Eugene’s number through someone at Okay FM and sent him a message. No response yet, but I understand how busy established artistes are. I know my time will come,” he added.

That sense of patience and determination shines through Swain’s story. Just last week, he got his first real taste of performing live. What was supposed to be a simple visit to submit his music turned into an unexpected performance slot. (Read Tagging artistes underground is an insult — Phatelinuks speaks out)

“I ended up performing three songs from my In Love EP. It wasn’t planned, but the energy was amazing. That moment gave me a lot of confidence as a performer,” he recalled.

Released only two weeks ago, Kojo’s debut EP In Love officially marked his entry as a recording artiste. The four-track project reflects his evolution from rapper to singer—a switch inspired by a colleague, Nizzle, who encouraged him to explore his voice.

“I spent about 10 years rapping, but once I started singing, I discovered a new side of myself. It feels authentic, and I’ve embraced it fully,” he said.

Like many emerging artistes, Kojo’s biggest challenge has been funding. “Unlike A-list artistes who get paid to perform, upcoming acts often have to pay for those same opportunities. Financing everything myself has not been easy, but I see it as part of the journey.

“My focus is to remain consistent, build my brand and attract the right support team or investor who can help me take my music global,” he said.

Outside of music, Swain is a trained accountant. But while numbers may pay the bills, it’s melodies that fuel his heart. With his debut EP out, a growing confidence on stage and an unshakable dream of signing with a top label, Swain stands at the start of what could be an inspiring journey.

“I’m just getting started and I believe the right doors will open at the right time. Until then, I’ll keep working hard and letting the music speak for itself,” he stated with optimism.
