Just enough laughs - No more, no less
It is likely that only first-time patrons of 1000 Laughs series would say that they had enough laughs the last December 26 Nite of 1015 Laughs at the Dome.
Past editions of Laughs have offered much more laughs than what comedians Pencil, M.C. Shakara, Hellen Paul, Emeka Smith and Elenu brought on Boxing Day. Was it over- familiarity with the audience or was it that the jokes were not really that kicking?
Indeed it could be both. Out of the five Nigerian comedians, three – Helen Paul, Emeka and Elenu had been on the Laughs stage in Accra before, some more than once. Again, having ran for the past five years, it appears that the side-splitting jokes of our Nigerian friends are running out.
But the only female comedian on the night stood out quite remarkably. Her pieces of advice to young single ladies on how to grab a man wherever – church included – were quite hilarious, coming from someone who seemed to know the terrain.
Also making quite a hit with the audience was new face Pencil whose hungry-looking disposition made him a source of laughter even before he uttered a word. It was he who made jokes about Bingo the dog who behaved like humans do, about Brazilian hair, and about child beggars.
Beyond the two comedians, the others did not seem to have quite clicked with members of the audience who have been regulars at the Laughs series.
The music interludes were all a Ghanaian affair which featured Rex Omar, Becca and Samini.
The Night of 1015 Laughs was presented by MTN and sponsored by rlg,Alisa Hotels, GH One and X Men.
