Kiddafest returns
The newly- created segment focuses on the Social Studies subject and also incorporates some general knowledge. It aims at imparting knowledge, skills and attitudes that could help the children broaden their horizon about Ghana and the rest of the world. Six schools have qualified to participate in Brain Challenge at Kiddafest 2012.
The music component of Kiddafest 2012 is expected to be exciting as it would incorporate a variety of styles such as hip hop, R n B, highlife, gospel and reggae. With already recorded instrumental backing, the young people would imitate the skills and creativity of known musicians as though they were the composers of those songs.
In terms of drama, the Green Valley school from Awoshie Last Stop in Accra will present a play titled Eradication of Poverty. It revolves around three young unemployed graduates seeking white collar jobs. Two of them are bent on becoming rich quickly while one, out of frustration, goes into poultry farming. The lives and activities of the three criss-cross in ways that keep the audience in constant suspense.
Another story from the Queensland school at Nungua Barrier in Accra titled Preservation of Our Environment is about best practices for protection of our natural resources. It shows how small efforts by everyone can contribute to a better environment for the world.
The dance programmes will present pieces from South Africa and northern Ghana. Inspirational poetry written by some of the children and their teachers will also be performed.
The festival organizers are sure that a segment aimed at exhibiting and nurturing the physical beauty and intelligence of contestants will arouse a lot of interest among the young people.
Kiddafest 2012 is being held in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service. Programmes start from 10.00am to 5.00pm on each of the three days.
