Sharaf Mahama inspires Black Starlets ahead of U-17 AFCON
Sharaf Mahama, son of President John Dramani Mahama, paid a courtesy call on the Black Starlets during their friendly encounter with True Life FC at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday morning.
The visit formed part of efforts to boost morale within the national U-17 team as they intensify preparations for the upcoming U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Encouragement ahead of continental test
Sharaf, who previously had playing stints with the West Africa Football Academy, interacted with the players and technical team, offering words of encouragement as they gear up for the tournament.
Addressing the squad, he urged them to remain focused and disciplined, while charging them to make the nation proud and secure qualification to the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
He also reminded the players of their resilience during the WAFU tournament in Côte d’Ivoire, where they overcame the odds to book their place at the continental showpiece.
Reunion with coach Ogum
Sharaf further expressed delight at reconnecting with Prosper Narteh Ogum, now head coach of the Black Starlets. The pair share a history from Sharaf’s time at WAFA, where he was coached by the respected Ghanaian tactician.
Final preparations intensify
The visit provided an additional morale boost for the Black Starlets, who are currently engaged in a series of preparatory matches as they fine-tune their squad ahead of the tournament.
With preparations gathering pace, the team will be hoping to build momentum and deliver a strong performance at the U-17 AFCON, with the ultimate aim of securing a place on the global stage.
