King Promise’s PR Tilly Akua Nipaa is GRASAG UNIMAC’s General Secretary

Daniel Ofori Asante, popularly known as KODA, has emerged as President-elect of the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG) at the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UNIMAC), following a keenly contested election.

His victory comes after a dramatic turn of events in the lead-up to the polls, which saw a strategic reshuffle within his campaign team. His running mate, Matilda Mensah Marfo, widely known as Tilly Akua Nipaa and also recognised as the spokesperson for King Promise, has been nominated as General Secretary.

Other contenders in the race were Tauphick Mohammed and Don Johnson Akyea.

In a statement following the announcement, Tilly Akua Nipaa disclosed that her entry into student leadership politics was recent, having been approached by KODA on March 1 to join his ticket as a vice-presidential candidate.

She noted that within just 24 days, she immersed herself in understanding the structure and dynamics of GRASAG, positioning herself to effectively support the campaign.

However, an unexpected development forced the team to reconsider their initial ticket arrangement. According to her, the decision to switch roles—from vice-presidential candidate to General Secretary—was both “intentional and strategic.”

She explained that the move was influenced by concerns over transparency in the electoral process, particularly the lack of real-time backend access for agents, which she said could undermine the credibility of a potential rerun.

“We could not, in good conscience, participate in a rerun where transparency was not guaranteed,” she stated, adding that their decision was aimed at safeguarding the integrity of the process and setting a precedent for future GRASAG elections.

The newly formed leadership, she emphasised, represents a commitment to accountability and reforms within the association.

Tilly Akua Nipaa described KODA's election and her subsequent nomination as a “significant win” and expressed gratitude to supporters and the campaign team, reaffirming her dedication to serving effectively in her new role.

With KODA at the helm as President and Tilly as General Secretary, the new administration is expected to steer the affairs of GRASAG-UNIMAC with a focus on transparency, inclusivity, and institutional strengthening.
