Leave me alone to enjoy —Atom tells critics

Since he hit the limelight with his smash hit Ye Wo Krom last year, Atom has never hesitated to prove that he is a man about town with his public display of affluence.

But for a relatively ‘young musician’, his perceived ‘obscene’ display of affluence which include showing off a number of cars with some bearing customised number plates has not gone down well with some members of the public earning the 2016 VGMA Hiplife Song of the Year winner a hefty dose of  backlash.

However, Atom who just returned from an European tour is unfazed and has damned his critics for wrongly judging him without verifying his business background and that they should leave him alone to enjoy the harvest of his toils.

“Why do people criticise unnecessarily the personal decisions of others? Well, I want to tell them to leave me to enjoy the fruits of my labour. I work hard and I’m enjoying my sweat,” he told Showbiz in an interview on Tuesday.

His outburst follows renewed criticisms heaped on him last week when he was spotted with a Range Rover which is believed to  have been bought with the over $20,000 payment he got from Apple for using his Ye Wo Krom song at a Worldwide Developers Conference in June this year.

This, the native of Akropong has denied saying “People think I bought my Range Rover from my Apple deal but that isn’t true. I had it long before this Apple negotiation.

“I’m a business man and I deal in cars and mobile phones from which I make a lot of money. I have more than seven cars and the Range Rover isn’t even the newest in my fleet of cars.”

The Ko Da singer continued, “I have been driving luxury cars since I bought my first car in 2007.  What people see as a luxury lifestyle is just a young man enjoying the fruits of his labour,” he defended.

He also rubbished the assertion that he did not deserve the 2016 VGMA Hiplife Song of the Year award and that it should have gone to fellow nominee, Luther for his Ekiikime song. “ I do not understand those who say I do not deserve the award. I went with the rules of the game by voting massively to earn it”, he added.

According to him, the award, has put a huge expectation on him as an artiste and he is not   surprised that already, he is being branded a “one time hit-maker”. But that tag, he said would be erased soon when he releases the songs he is working on in the studio. Already, he has come out with a remix of Akatakyie’s Odo ɛsisi Me, Washishi and Akwaaba.

Born Ebenezer Afum Larbi, Atom grew up in Adeiso and says he honed his music talent at New Juabeng Senior High where he had his secondary education.

Unknown to many, Atom is not a new kid on the block when it comes to music. He made his debut in 2012 with a song, My Heart Dey which did not fly.

However, that did not deter him from pursuing his dream until luck smiled on him late last year with Ye Wo Krom which became an instant hit.

He just ended an Europe tour which took him to Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany and Holland.
