Maccasio wins Artiste of the Year at maiden Ghana Northern Music awards
Tamale based rap powerhouse Maccasio, known in real life as Sherif Abdul Majeed, has been crowned Overall Artiste of the Year at the maiden edition of the Ghana Northern Music Awards 2025.
The newly introduced awards scheme, created to celebrate excellence across Ghana’s five northern regions, honoured Maccasio for his consistency, cultural influence, and immense contribution to pushing Northern music onto national and international platforms.
His victory was one of the standout moments of a night filled with creativity, resilience, and regional pride.
Maccasio also picked up Viral Video of the Year with Corner There, highlighting his ability to shape trends and spark conversations within the Ghanaian music industry.
The awards night honoured artists, producers, DJs, bloggers, and creatives across 31 categories, showcasing the depth and diversity of Northern talent.
Notable highlights included Ataaka’s lyrical brilliance in hip hop, Wiz Child’s win as Voice of Tomorrow, and strong regional performances from Saint Chicago of the Upper East, Rekordz of the Upper West, Drip Dwitt of the Savanna Region, S Bio of the Northern Region, and Sapashini of the North East Region.
The event also carried international significance, with Shatta Wale receiving the Special Recognition Award Ghana and Nigerian global star Davido honored with the Special Recognition Award Africa, reflecting the expanding global footprint of Northern Ghanaian music.
Organizers congratulated all winners and nominees, reaffirming their commitment to supporting artists and amplifying the sound of Northern Ghana on bigger stages.
