Marvel fan rushed to ER after 'crying too hard while watching Avengers: Endgame'

After a phenomenal first weekend box office of $1.2 billion globally, Avengers: Endgame has become one of the most financially successful films ever made.

Apparently, the superhero epic starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Brie Larson - among numerous others - has also brought out unprecedentedly strong emotions from viewers.

One Marvel fan in China has allegedly cried so much while watching the three-hour blockbuster she had to be rushed to the hospital straight from the cinema.

China was the first country to screen the Disney/Marvel Studios film, which also features Scarlett Johannson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Bradley Cooper.

The 21-year-old Chinese woman, known by a pseudonym Xiao Li, was said to be watching the midnight premiere last Wednesday in the eastern Chinese city of Ningbo.

It was alleged that she cried non-stop throughout the movie.

Doctors at the city's Mingzhou Hospital said Xiao Li had difficulty breathing when she was brought into the ER by her friends who had been watching the film with her.

It was also claimed that her hands couldn't stop twitching.

'[After we] observed her symptoms, we believed she had been crying and gasping too much, which led to shortness of breath,' said doctor Yuan Liyan who treated Xiao Li.

Dr Yuan said she and her team gave Xiao Li oxygen therapy and then put a mask on her face. The patient's condition improved after a short while, the medic added.

Chinese outlet BJ News has released a short clip which is believed to show Xiao Li being treated in the hospital.

Xiao Li wasn't the only fan in China who had got too emotional over Avengers' final installment.

One viewer was reportedly beaten up outside a cinema by furious fans who were queuing to see the film after loudly revealing the plot of the film.

According to Taiwanese media, the man was left bloodied outside a cinema in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, after being attacked by angry cinema-goers in the line.

A photo of the man has circulated online, according to AsiaOne, and shows him sitting down on a blood-spattered pavement.

Avengers: Endgame is the sequel to Avengers: Infinity War and is the culmination of 21 feature films and 11 years of production.

The flick, directed by Russo Brothers, has sealed its place in history as one of the most financially successful films after an epic opening.

It was the number one film in the United States with a $350 million haul, which was aided by an $859 million opening throughout other countries.

In China, the film has reportedly smashed 20 Chinese cinema records after hitting the cinema at midnight on April 24.

Chinese news outlet Sohu reported that the film racked up a never-before-seen 2.23 billion yuan ($330 million) haul over a five-day opening weekend in the country, which accounted for some 95 per cent of the overall box office last week.

The film has also set a record in China after gaining 550 million yuan ($81.7 million) in box office on a single day, said Sohu.
