My competitors are scary - MzVee on BET nomination
She’s arguably the biggest thing now in Ghana when it comes to the femme fatales of the music industry. And with this accolade, it wasn’t surprising when MzVee was nominated in the Best International Africa, Act in the Black Entertainment Awards (BET) last week.

Though good news for the Ghanaian music industry, the reigning VGMA Female Vocalist of the Year has described her competitors in the category as “scary.”
The talented MzVee is coming up against the likes of Nigeria’s Yemi Alade and Wizkid, Diamond Platinum, Casper Nyovest, Black Coffee and South Africa’s AKA.
“Truthfully, my competitors are scary and I feel intimidated. I won’t lie. The people in that category are scary good and really excellent at what they do. They all deserve to be there as well and have been there years before I even came into the music industry. But it’s also a good sign that MzVee is working hard,” the Natural Girl artiste said in an interview with Showbiz last Monday.
According to MzVee, even though she is intimidated by their “scary status” and the successes her “rivals” have chalked up in the African music industry and beyond the shores of the continent over the years, she is hopeful to retain the award in Ghana.
She said Stonebwoy had a similar story last year and was completely written off because of those he was competing with but at the end, he took the award and brought it home to Ghana.
“I believe I can win the BET award. I know from the support I’m getting from my fans here in Ghana. I feel very intimidated but I believe with the level of support from my fans here, this year’s BET International Act, Africa award would be mine,” she stated.
Her nomination was greeted with mixed feelings from Ghanaians particularly, when artistes such as Sarkodie, Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale, who are ruling the airwaves with their songs, lost out.

But the current Lynx Entertainment first lady believes her hard work earned her a slot in the category.
‘‘I earned it with my hard work and I believe I deserve it. I think anything good happening to someone is because they worked hard for it and deserved it. My hard work is a testimony of all good results and successes I’m enjoying these few years of my existence in the industry. I don’t think it is luck at all.
“Besides, I’m the first female artiste from Ghana to make it to the BET Awards. I was nominated in the Viewer’s Choice Best International category last year and that gingered me to work harder this year. Now, I feel the pressure to live up to expectation because I think it’s an honour to be nominated,” she stated.
A member of the defunct D3 trio group, MzVee shot to fame in 2014 with her debut solo single titled Borkorborkor, which featured Lazy of VVIP fame.
She has worked over the years to earn some awards among which include the VGMA New Artiste of the Year last year. Some of the songs she has to her credit are Show Me, Everything, Real Woman, Can’t Wait, Abofra, and Come Over.
