Rebecca gets two nominations in 2016 AMAAs

She has won many awards at the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) in previous years and film director and producer, Shirley Frimpong Manso is back in this year’s nominations list for the AMAA 2016 Award for Achievements in Editing and Sound, with her movie, Rebecca.

The nominations were announced last week Sunday by the President of the 2016 AMAA Jury, Mr. Husseini Shaibu during a ceremony at the Protea Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.

Apart from Shirley’s nominations, Ghana earned 13 nominations for this year’s event set to take place in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, next month.

Unlike previous years, this year recorded a lot of new faces on the nomination list, some of who are new actor, Joseph Otsiman who got the nod for Best Actor In Supporting Role for his performance in the film, The Cursed Ones. Nana Obiri Yeboah was also nominated for AMAA 2016 Award For Best Director category for his role in The Cursed Ones.

Young actress, Ophelia Klenam Dzidzornu is also competing in AMAA 2016 Award For Best Young/Promising Actor category for her role in The Cursed Ones while English actor, Oris Erhuero is also representing Ghana in the Best Actor In Leading Role category for his performance in the same movie.

Cursed Treasure and Daggers of Life (Agbe Fe Akumehewo) were both nominated for Ousmane Sembene AMAA 2016 Award For Best Film In An African Language.

The Peculiar Life of a Spider also made it into the Best Animation Category.
