Grace Nortey, others honoured at Ghana Women of the Year awards
It was a great night to celebrate womanhood and bestow praises on some outstanding women who had excelled in various fields of endeavour at the State Banquet Hall last Saturday when the maiden edition of the Ghana Women of the Year Honours Awards was held.

Organised by Glitz Africa, publishers of Glitz Africa Magazine, the awards was to bring to the fore the contribution of women and celebrate their good works for the society. The honourees were celebrated in the fields of business, media, health, education, corporate personality and arts and given trail blazer awards.
Veteran actress, Grace Nortey, earned a standing ovation when she was called for her plaque and citation in appreciation for her contribution to the development of the Arts and Creative sector. As an actress, Grace Nortey has inspired many young actors with her talent and serves as an inspiration to young ones. Shirley Frimpong Manso, a movie producer is a testimony.
Other celebrants were Beatrice Aidoo( Excellence in Media), Grace Obeng, C.E.O of FC Company earned the Excellence in Business Award while Dr Beatrice Wiafe Addai of Breast Care International and Peace and Love Hospital was honoured with the Excellence In Health Award.
Co- founder and Chief Technical Officer at Logiciel, Farida Nana Efua Bedwei was honoured with the Trailblazer award for her contribution in software engineering. A physically challenged person with Cerebral palsy, Farida hasn’t allowed her disability to prevent her from achieving her dreams.
Her conviction and will to pursue her dreams despite her disabilities, according to the organisers, was enough inspiration to honour her for her good works and “breaking the myth that IT is a field for men”.
Dr Joy Henrietta Mensa-Bonsu has served in various high offices including being the Deputy Special Representative (Rule of Law) and was honoured with the Excellence in Education Award. She is currently the Director of the Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy and a full professor of Criminal law at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ghana.
The Managing Director of Airtel Ghana, Ms Lucy Quist , picked the Corporate Personality award and Ms Abena Asomaning Antwi of Angel Zoe foundation was honoured with the Excellence in Humanities award for “bringing hope to prison inmates”.

Miss Jessica Ayeley Quaye, a former student of Wesley Girls High School who was adjudged the Over all best student for the 2015 WASSCE Exams was appreciated for her academic prowess.
Claudia Lumor, the founder of Glitz Africa said the awards scheme was established to celebrate outstanding women who had used their expertise, positions and influence to champion worthy causes “to make visible difference in our society”.
“These outstanding women have also inspired others to improve their well being, develop their potential and bring about change in their respective fields,” she stated.
Apart from celebrating women in a special way, the night also saw sterling performances from singers, Nana Yaa, Yaayaa, No Tribe and Becca and was graced by some notable personalities including the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Nana Oye Lithur.
