Shatta Wale released by EOCO after bail was reduced to GH¢5 million
Dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah, popularly known as Shatta Wale, has been released to go home after he was able to meet the revised bail condition set by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
EOCO reduced the initial bail in the sum of GH¢10 million to GH¢5 million with two sureties to be justified.
Following that, Shatta Wale was able to meet the bail condition, and by 6:30 pm, Graphic Online understands he had gained his freedom to go home.
In a statement issued earlier today, EOCO said Shatta Wale was in custody pending the provision of the sureties, whose properties will be verified to ensure they are commensurate with the bail amount.
The musician was invited to EOCO’s offices on Wednesday, August 20, to assist in investigations into the purchase of a Lamborghini Urus, which has been linked to proceeds of a US$4 million crime involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving a prison term in the United States.
According to EOCO, after nearly four hours of interrogation, Shatta Wale was unable to identify who sold the luxury vehicle to him, claiming instead that he acquired it from the “street”.
“So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah has been unable to identify the person from whom he purchased the said Lamborghini Urus vehicle except to say that he purchased it from the ‘Street’ and from someone possibly called ‘ZAK’ who may have contacted him on WhatsApp but whose identity he does not know and whose contact he has thrown away,” a statement from EOCO said.
EOCO further disclosed that the artiste does not possess any receipts or transfer documents to prove ownership of the car, except for a customs declaration document bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah.
