The 22-year-old beauty queen bested 120 other contestants to become the successor to the Philippines’s Megan Young.

Miss United States, Elizabeth Safrit placed third, while Miss Hungary, Edina Kulcsar came second.

Ghana’s representative, Nadia Ntanu was voted one of the top 25 queens out of the 121 beauties who contested this year.

In a related development Miss Carranzar Naa Okailey Shooter, Miss World Africa 2013 has congratulated Miss World 2014, on winning the coveted crown and making Africa proud.

She said Miss Strauss’ feat was  victory for all African women who truly embodied beauty with a purpose.

Miss Shooter recalled that the crown was in Africa 13 years ago in 2001 when Nigeria’s Agbani Darego won it.

She said she was happy that two Africans, Miss Kenya and Miss South Africa, made it to the top 10.

“A queen from the continent winning the crown shows that Africa has what it takes to win more crowns in the near future,” she said.

“I wish Miss World 2014,  Miss South Africa all the best in her reign, she truly embodies beauty with a purpose and I hope she will use her reign to impart on the less privileged in the world especially Africa,” she said.

According to Miss World Africa 2013, when she mounted that platform last year she had the strong conviction that “This is the time for Africa to shine” and I am elated that the crown is back in Africa.

She also congratulated Miss Ntanu for holding the flag of Ghana high.
