Zongofest enjoys rousing patronage

More than 18 ethnic groups from Zongo communities in Accra took to the Nima Highway to showcase their cultural heritage at the just-ended three-day Zongofest.

It was a festival to celebrate the cultural heritage of the Zongo communities and was organised by the National Commission on Culture (NCC).

To give the public a good view of their rich heritage, various chiefs bedecked in traditional finery, rode on horses from Kawukudi Junction to the Nima Market Square. The procession attracted hundreds of onlookers and revelers from Nima and its environs and caused a huge traffic jam on the Nima Highway.

The discomfort of road users was, however, compensated for as they were delighted by the variety of traditional dance forms, outfits and other activities displayed as part of the procession.

Key aims of the festival were to promote culture and arts within the Zongo communities, create opportunities and provide a platform for exchange of information and ideas
