Mahama promises nursing students automatic postings, fee waiver
The flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has pledged to restore automatic employment postings for nursing students upon graduation, including waiver of fees for incoming students.

"We'll restore automatic posting so that when you graduate, you'll be employed as quickly as possible," he added.
Mr Mahama made the promise during his two-day campaign tour of the Ahafo Region where he addressed nursing students from the College of Nursing and Midwifery in Ntrotroso.
The flag bearer acknowledged the challenges faced by nursing students, including issues of payment of allowance, and assured them of better times ahead.
He vowed to complete abandoned hospital projects to create more job opportunities for health professionals in the country.
Vote for change
The former President urged the students to safeguard their voting cards and vote for change in the December 7 elections this year.
“Make sure you keep your voting cards well and on December 7, vote for change and vote for the 24-hour economy,” he said.
Mr Mahama’s promises were met with chants and cheers of hope from the students who expressed optimism about their future under an NDC administration.

Auditing of voters’ register
The NDC flag bearer arrived in Goaso last Wednesday for a two-day stop as part of his tour of the region.
He paid a courtesy call on the Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs where he solicited their support for a free and fair election.
The Paramount Chief of the Goaso Traditional Area, Nana Akwasi Bosompra,urged the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson to permit an audit of the 2024 voters register to ensure a free and fair election.
He expressed concern over the commission's reluctance to heed the NDC's call for an independent audit, saying "if nothing is hidden, the outcome will earn praise. If the register is credible, no one will be arrested, you'll be praised".
The chief further said: "They are not asking for something new; they want a third-party audit. If the Otumfuo sends chiefs to audit me, I won't allow my own kinsmen to investigate."
Potential for growth
A statement signed by the spokesperson of the former President, Joyce Bawa Mogtari, said “known for its rich natural resources and resilient communities, the NDC leader believes the Ahafo Region has great potential for growth and development”.
Mr Mahama shared his vision for the region’s vibrant agriculture, mining and forestry sectors.
“Despite all these resources, the area is still at a crossroads with bad roads, poor infrastructure and worsening poverty levels,” it said.
The statement further said that when given the nod, an NDC government would empower farmers, create jobs and provide quality healthcare through policies like the 24-hour economy initiative, Medical Care Trust Fund (Mahama Cares) and the establishment of Farmer Services Centres, among other interventions.
