Police arrest two over Tumu-Kowie road robbery

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with an armed robbery attack on the Tumu-Kowie road in the Sissala East District and recovered two motorbikes believed to be linked to the crime.

A statement issued by the Command on Monday, June 1, 2026, said the suspects, Seidu Muizu, 20, and Salifu Mutada, 22, allegedly robbed three people at gunpoint on May 30, 2026, and made away with an unregistered Apsonic motorbike.

The statement said a police intelligence operation led to the arrest of the two suspects and the recovery of the stolen Apsonic motorbike.

Police also retrieved a second unregistered Loujia motorbike, which investigators suspect was used in carrying out the robbery. Both motorbikes have been impounded to aid investigations.

According to the statement, preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects may be linked to a number of robbery incidents reported in Tumu and nearby communities.

The Command said investigations were continuing to establish whether the suspects had been involved in other criminal activities within the district.

It added that the two suspects remained in police custody and were assisting with investigations.

Police are also pursuing efforts to recover the firearm allegedly used in the robbery.

The Deputy Upper West Regional Police Commander, ACP Peter Kamasa, commended residents for their cooperation with the police and appealed to the public to continue sharing information that could help prevent and combat crime.
