Managing sanitation: Way to go

It is worrying that government after government are unable to manage sanitation.

The desire to keep our environment clean would continue to elude us, so long as we keep the issue on the back burner.

Do authorities managing sanitation ask the public to volunteer to clean their spaces?

It is because we do not attach any seriousness to sanitation.

I was reading a book on the genesis of governance in the United States and Europe.

What came out clearly was the priority of sanitation.

Indeed, sanitation was placed side by side with governance, and sometimes, it took priority over civil administration.

I urge those in charge of sanitation to employ people already trained in sanitation management to do the job they have been trained for.

The government's 24-hour economy must project sanitation as a kingpin.

Our sanitation workers must be so well remunerated as to attract people to work in that space permanently.

Workers in sanitation should be among the highest paid in Ghana.

I end by quoting a  popular proverb in the Eʋe language, a proverb former President  Akufo-Addo once quoted before his State of the Nation Address, Nuveve, nuveve ze me wo an le: “Important food must be cooked in an equally important pot.”
