The statement followed the Electoral Commission’s declaration of John Mahama as Ghana’s President-elect, alongside Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, who made history as Ghana’s first female vice president.

Blinken also praised Ghana for conducting a transparent and peaceful election, acknowledging the efforts of poll workers, civil society organisations, and the country’s security forces.
“The United States commends the Electoral Commission, its hundreds of thousands of poll workers, civil society, and the country’s security forces, who helped ensure a peaceful and transparent process,” he stated.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia was also lauded for his gracious acceptance of the election results.
