World leaders congratulate Mahama on 'historic' victory
Ghana's President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, made a historic comeback after winning the December 7 general election massively, thus, chalking up one of the most emphatic victories in the electoral history of the Fourth Republic.
His win marks a historic victory, making him the first president in the more than three decades of Ghana’s Fourth Republic to have received such massive endorsement from the people of Ghana.

It is also the first time Ghana will have a female Vice-President. Immediately after his win, several world and African leaders sent messages congratulating him.
United States
The United States congratulates President-elect, John Mahama, on his successful election campaign, following the declaration of results by Ghana’s Electoral Commission. “We extend further congratulations to Vice-President-elect, Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, on becoming Ghana’s first female Vice-President.
It also commended the Electoral Commission, its hundreds of thousands of poll workers, civil society, and the country’s security forces, who helped ensure a peaceful and transparent process.
We also applaud Vice-President Mahamudu Bawumia for his gracious acceptance of the results.
The United States is proud of our enduring partnership and friendship with the people and Government of Ghana. We look forward to working closely with President-elect Mahama to carry our historic relationship into the future.
China
The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, sent a congratulatory message to John Dramani Mahama on his election as President.

He noted that Ghana is one of the first countries in sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic ties with China and was also an important strategic partner of China in Africa.
President Xi said the China-Ghana friendship had a long history and had been strengthened over time.
“In recent years, bilateral relations have enjoyed a sound momentum of development, with fruitful practical cooperation in various fields,” President Xi said.
Belarus
President Aleksandr Lukashenko has congratulated John Dramani Mahama on his election as President of Ghana. "The voting results testify to the high level of people’s trust in you and the National Democratic Congress party.

I am confident that your work as the leader of the state will contribute to the country’s prosperity, the well-being of citizens, and Ghana's standing in the international arena," the congratulatory message reads.
The Belarusian leader reaffirmed commitment to promoting long-term strong ties between the two countries for the benefit of their peoples and hoped for further enhancement of the traditionally friendly bilateral relations between Belarus and Ghana.
The African Union
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, warmly congratulates H.E. John Dramani Mahama and H.E. Prof. Naana Jane Opuku-Agyemang, upon their election victory as President-Elect and Vice-President-Elect in the December 7, 2024 General Election in the Republic of Ghana.

The chairperson further commended all Ghanaians and national stakeholders for the largely peaceful conduct of the poll, attesting to the country's strong political maturity.
Nigerian President, Bola Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama on his victory in the December 7 general election in Ghana, following his opponent’s concession speech.
In a telephone call to Mahama, President Tinubu hoped that Mahama’s ascension to power for the second time would further bring stability to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), of which President Tinubu was the chairman.

President Tinubu commended the people of Ghana for their commitment to democracy, which was demonstrated through the peaceful and successful conduct of both the presidential and parliamentary elections.
