
VACANCY: Laboratory Technician
The Laboratory Technician will provide essential support to the Science department by preparing and maintaining laboratory equipment, materials, and resources for practical lessons. The role involves assisting Science teachers with lesson preparation, ensuring the safe and efficient running of the laboratory, and maintaining stock levels of chemicals, equipment, and materials.
The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in ensuring that practical sessions are well-organised, safe, and conducive to high-quality learning in line with the Cambridge curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Support:
● Prepare, set up, and clear away materials and equipment for practical lessons in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and other science subjects.
● Ensure that all laboratory experiments are set up in accordance with the Cambridge curriculum requirements and safety protocols.
● Assist teachers during practical lessons, providing technical support and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
● Assist with the preparation of documentation for lesson planning and curriculum delivery.
2. Health and Safety:
● Ensure all laboratory activities comply with health and safety regulations, including the safe handling and disposal of chemicals and biological materials.
● Conduct regular risk assessments of the laboratory and practical experiments to minimize hazards.
3. Collaboration with Teachers:
● Work closely with the science teaching staff to ensure that practical lessons align with the curriculum and are well-supported by appropriate resources.
● Provide feedback to the teachers on laboratory-related needs and issues.
● Help develop and enhance practical skills for students by providing instructional support and guidance where necessary.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
● Education: A minimum of a relevant qualification in a science field
● Experience: Previous experience as a laboratory technician, preferably in a secondary school setting, is desirable.
Desirable Qualifications:
● First Aid certification.
● Health and Safety training.
● Experience with the Cambridge curriculum, particularly in managing practical science sessions.
● Knowledge of the latest developments in scientific equipment and technology.
