The event, dubbed: “The 2014 Spirit Ball Clinic”, provided an opportunity for the students to interact with the US National Basket Association (NBA) star, Christopher Wesson, popularly known as Chris Bosh, who was in the country for a five-day visit.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Vice-President of the Ghana Basketball Association (GBBA), Mr Iddrisu Gamel, called on the government to invest more funds into the sport in order to attract more youth.

He said although the nation had a lot of youth who were very talented in basketball, the lack of funds and other resources to be used for training usually curtailed their dreams of playing to a higher level.

“If money can be put in basketball, just like football, Ghana can make a lot of difference on the international scene,” Mr Gamel said.

A student from Adisadel College, Master Daniel Wristberg, whose dexterity and popularity dominated the exercise, said, “It was great having Chris Bosh here with us.”

Master Joseph Aggrey from the Kings College in Cape Coast also said Chris Bosh’s presence had boosted his confidence in basketball.

The immediate past Central Regional Coordinator of GBBA, Mr C. C. Williams, said basketball had great potential in the region and Ghana at large and, therefore, needed attention.

He added that the region had seen a lot of talents during the inter-school competitions and could take the country to a higher height in that discipline.
