Master Ashiangmor has won an all-expense paid trip to represent Ghana in New York, USA during the International Model UN also known as JHS Model UN. During  the Model UN, Master Ashiangmor would act as a delegate from Chile, a South American country.

The Model UN is a United Nations sponsored programme where students are selected to represent the various countries which are members of the UN to speak about the problems that face countries in the UN and find solutions to some of the problems.

Participants, therefore, research on the countries they are selected to represent and formulate political and social solutions based on the actual policies of those countries.

Master Ashiangmor came first among 194 JHS students who represented various countries which are members of the United Nations during a contest to select a Ghanaian delegate for the international contest.

In an interview with the Junior Graphic, Master Ashiangmor said he initially represented Madagascar, an island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Southeast Africa, for the competition to select the best JHS student to represent Ghana.

He said for three months, together with other delegates they were trained on how to research and formulate policies so that they could come up with solutions to some of the problems their adopted countries were facing.

“The topic for this year’s Model UN Contest is ‘Providing education for persons with disabilities’ and that was what I worked on for Madagascar. I am also working on the same topic but  this time, for Chile,” he added.

“When the programme came to an end, I was adjudged the Overall Best Delegate to represent Ghana and I would be traveling to New York to meet other delegates,” Marcus said proudly.

Master Ashiangmor said the JHS Model United Nations contest had equipped him with skills in researching, public speaking, debating, writing, teamwork and leadership.

“Being a member of the Junior Graphic Fan Club has  benefitted  me  greatly because during club meetings we are taught how to be assertive, confident and creative and this  helped me to excel,” Marcus said.
