Stick to vacancies available in SHSs - Aburi Girls’ head tells GES

The Headmistress of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, Ms Rosemond Bampo, has called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to stick to the number of vacancies available in senior high schools during the computerised placement students and fill only those numbers in the various schools.

Speaking at the school’s 68th Speech and Prize-giving Day, Ms Bampo said that admitting more students than the vacancies in a school resulted in overcrowding in the classrooms, dormitories and dining halls, which did not give students the needed comfort and peace of mind to study.

The speech day, which had the theme: “Nurturing girls to become global achievers”, was sponsored by the 1989 year-group of the school.

At the event, 101 students were awarded for their outstanding performance and diligence. They included: Ms Amma Ofosu-Amoah, Ms Lily Agyeiwaa Asamoah, Ms Jane Andoh and Ms Rosamond Atta-Kesson, who were the best students in the school during the 2013 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The headmistress called on all students to build the foundations for great value achievements such as self–discipline, commitment and dedication to their studies.

The Executive Director and Head of Data Bank Asset Management, Reverend Daniel Ogbarmey-Tetteh, advised the students not to allow anything to hinder their studies.

Instead, he said, they should aim at perfection and benchmark themselves to international standards, adding that they should look beyond their comfort zones and build their capacities to be the best.

The Senior Prefect of the school, Ms Aniela Allotey, commended all stakeholders including the Ministry of Education, the GES, the Aburi Girls’ Old Students, the Board of Governors and other supporting bodies for their active involvement and contributions towards the development of the school.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebration by the 1989 year-group, a 20-seater modern water-closet facility constructed by the group was inaugurated. They also sponsored the designing of a website for the school.
