Pupils for both the Hillview Montessori and Rising Sun Montessori School held individual contests among the four houses in their schools: Daffodils, Tulip, Primrose and Sunflower.

The Quiz Coordinator, Mrs Obuobisa Darko, explained that the intra-school quiz was organised to help schoolchildren improve on their reading and comprehension skills and encourage them to grow their interest in writing their own stories from the everyday ideas and inspirations they have as children.

She pointed out that the author of the books, Audrey Obuobisa Darko, was in basic school when she wrote both books, and therefore, encouraged the pupils to work hard to exhibit their knowledge in their various fields of interest.

The classes which came tops in the respective houses were presented with story books from the Ghana Book Trust, which rewarded 16 of the contestants and their schools with 40 copies of novels that won the Burt Award for African Literature.  The books comprised Elizabeth-Irene Baitie’s Rattling in the Closet, Ruby Yayra Goka’s Plain Yellow, David Kwame Kwakye’s Lightning, Asare Adei’s Witches of Honour and Nii Kpany Addy’s Red Spectacles Knows.

The classes were represented by two members of each of the four houses in both the Lower and Upper Primary levels.

The competing houses of the Lower Primary were represented by Gabriella Kissiedu and Josepha Amoah of Daffodils; Samuel Engman and Anita Chiragia of Tulip; Ohemaa Ansony, Mandy Morrty of Primrose.

Princess Dzorbor and Joy Tennison of Sunflower placed first with 32 points, followed by Tulip which amassed 23.5 points, while Daffodils took the third position with 23 points, leaving Primrose in fourth position with 22 points.

The Upper Primary houses were also represented by Princess Tetteh and Ronli Ofosuhene of Daffodils; Nathania Pokua Arthur and Kofi Owusu Boahen Jnr of Tulip; Patricia Afatsawo and Awurajoa Esaaba Wilson of Primrose with Nhyira Kumea Obeng and Denzel Jefferies Kwuwornu of Sunflower.
