"Train children to be useful adults"

Chief Superintendent Rev. (Mrs) Laurencia W. Akorli, the Director of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU), has advised parents to make children a priority and train them to be useful adults.

She also reminded all adults that, it is a crime when the child's rights are infringed on, by asking them to go beyond their limit while engaging in their basic house chores.

Rev. (Mrs) Akorli was speaking at the launch of the Global Study on Sexual Exploitation of Children in the travel and tourism sector.

She said it was important that children on the streets are also not denied education because they also constitute the future leaders of the nation. 

The Executive Director of International Needs Ghana (ING), Mr Edmund Vanderpuye said commercial sexual exploitation of children was classified as one of the worst forms of child abuse, therefore, the ING had implemented a number of projects to prevent and withdraw children from this form of abuse. 

He said, '' we have educated children on the threats sexual exploitation poses on them and empowered them to be champions of their own''. 

The National Coordinator of the Ghana NGO Coalition on the Right of the Child (GNCRC), Mr Barima Akwasi Amankwaah in his presentation stated that the ultimate objective of the research was to reduce violence against children, with a special focus on the commercial exploitation of children in tourism.  

Nana Adwoa Awindor, a television personality who chaired the launch of the research, expressed gratitude to the initiators of the project.

Additionally,she called on all organisations to help eradicate child abuse or violence against children.
