+233 hosts acclaimed Danish band
The ApiPipo band from Denmark, led by guitarist Alain Dodji Apaloo, will bring their style of music, widely described as ‘metropolitan Afro-pop jazz’, to the +233 Jazz Bar & Grill in Accra tomorrow, January 12.
Originally from Togo, Apaloo has lived and worked in Denmark for over two decades. A product of the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, he formed the ApiPipo band in 2004 and they have been outstanding with their exciting West African vibes laced with jazz, blues and other influences.
Apart from Apaloo, others in the band are: Ayi Solomon (percussion), Sarha da Silva (vocals), Morten Ankarfeldt (bass) and Gorm Bulow (piano, keyboards).
The band won the Danish World Music Award for their album ‘Floodgate’ (2009) and their album ‘Nunya’ (2015) was received with widespread critical acclaim.
Apaloo is also a singer and composer. He has worked with Ghanaian musicians over the years and is happy to be here with his own band which includes his long-time friend and collaborator, Ayi Solomon. Other known Ghanaian artists Apaloo has played and toured Europe with include Kwame Yeboah and Kojo Antwi.
Ahead of the +233 gig, the ApiPipo band will play at the Royal Senchi Hotel & Resort in the Eastern Region on Saturday, January 11 alongside Dela Botri’s Hewale Sounds.
