Can we create a cleaner generation? Kleanz inspires school children to make handwashing a habit

This October, five schools in the Greater Accra Region became hubs of learning, excitement, and lifelong hygiene lessons as Ghandour Cosmetics Ltd., through its hygiene brand, Kleanz, launched a major school activation to commemorate Global Handwashing Day.

Global Handwashing Day is dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of hand hygiene in preventing diseases. Each year, organisations -including schools and health agencies- host activities to educate communities about proper handwashing techniques.

This year, Kleanz reached over 1,500 students across five schools: Star of the Sea (Dansoman), Christian Home School (Dansoman), Datus International School (Tema), Trinity Lutheran School (Tema), and St. Peter's Mission School (Ashaley Botwe).

The mission was clear: to empower children with the knowledge and motivation to wash their hands properly and consistently, supported by Kleanz Handwashing Soap and Sanitiser.

The activation blended education with engaging activities that resonated with young learners aged 9-14 years. With the support of Brand & Growth Ambassadors Dr Louisa Satekla and Nana Ama McBrown, students enjoyed lively demonstrations of proper handwashing techniques- transforming a simple yet essential hygiene practice into a memorable routine.

The vibrant fragrances of Kleanz Hand Soap - Antibacterial, Strawberry, Vanilla & Honey, Chocolate, and Aloe Vera- added to the excitement, making each wash feel like a small treat and helping children associate hygiene with enjoyment rather than obligation.

In addition to the exciting goodies from Kleanz, every student also received a free pocket hand sanitiser with a colourful holder—perfectly designed to clip onto their school bags for hygiene on the go. Now, staying clean isn’t just easy, it’s stylish and fun!

Beyond the educational sessions, Kleanz made a lasting impact by donating soap and sanitiser dispensers to all washrooms across the five schools, along with a substantial supply of soaps and sanitisers for refills. This ensures that students have continuous access to the hygiene tools they need to maintain their new habits.

A highlight of the initiative was teaching students the Kleanz Hygiene Pledge- a simple yet powerful commitment to good hygiene practices.

The pledge plaque was subsequently hoisted in strategic locations throughout each school, serving as a constant reminder and inspiration for students to stay clean and healthy.

To reinforce the lessons, the initiative concluded with the Kleanz 21-Day Challenge, encouraging pupils to put their new habits into practice for three consecutive weeks under the theme #StayCleanWithKleanz.

While this challenge served as the climax, education and awareness remained at the heart of the campaign- equipping children with simple habits that protect them for life.

"We are not just teaching children to wash their hands; we are helping them build a routine that can protect them for years to come," said Victoria Abakah, Brands Manager for Kleanz, during one of the sessions.

From Dansoman to Tema to Ashaley Botwe, the impact is already evident. With improved understanding, daily practice, and access to the right hygiene tools, more than 1,500 students are now better equipped to stay safe and inspire healthier habits in their homes and communities.

The question, however, remains: Can we create a cleaner generation?

With education, consistency, and joining the power of Kleanz, the answer looks more promising than ever.
