Christians must lead fight against corruption, mismanagement

The Christian community has been urged to take a leading role in addressing the pervasive issues of corruption and mismanagement in the country.

Rev. Ed Arcton, the President of LMC Global Ministries who made the call at the launch of Your Money Counts (YMC) Ghana, an inter-denominational Christian non-profit organisation dedicated to teaching whole life stewardship based on biblical principles, emphasised the responsibility of Christians in fostering ethical behaviour and integrity in society.

He questioned the accountability of the Christian community, saying, "If in a country we have over 70 per cent Ghanaians profess to be Christians, and there is corruption in high places, who is responsible and who is accountable?"

Rev. Arcton who is the president, YMC Ghana, highlighted the significant presence of Christians in government positions and urged church leaders to take a stand against corruption and mismanagement.

"Preaching about prosperity is not a way out. But integrity, hard work, faithfulness, and diligence will open doors and get you money in the right way," he said.

Sharing his experience, Mr Noel Atayi, a Biblical Finance facilitator and a Management Consultant, said although there were many hurdles when standing up for the right things to be done, Christians must not lose focus.

He said just as Jesus faced persecution, Christians would experience same if they insisted on doing the right thing always.

He said it was worrying that the church today had moved from its mandate, which is the Great Commission and rather focused on prosperity and showing off.

Pastor Isaac Takyi, a team member of the organisation, added that YMC Ghana was dedicated to teaching and promoting biblical principles of finance, ethics and environmental stewardship.

Through educational programmes such as seminars, church and other public engagements, the organisation hopes to build a future where financial decisions, ethical choices, and environmental actions reflect the teachings of Christ.

Highlighting environmental stewardship, he said the organisation would advocate sustainable living practices, conservation efforts and the biblical mandate to be good stewards of the environment.

“We seek to inspire a commitment to protecting and preserving God's creation for future generations, honouring the Lord Jesus in all we do.”

“Your Money Counts Ghana is more than just an organisation; it is a movement. A movement towards a future where financial literacy, ethical integrity and environmental responsibility are deeply rooted in the Bible among our communities. We envision a Ghana where individuals not only prosper financially but also live out their faith in Jesus Christ in ways that bless others and honour our Lord Jesus Christ,” he added.
