Knights of Marshall Council 10 launches 80th anniversary

The Knights of Marshall Council 10, Accra, has officially launched activities to mark its 80th anniversary celebration. The colourful ceremony was held at the St. Paul Catholic Church, Kpehe, Accra last Sunday, April 19.

To mark the milestone, the theme for the celebration is; “Council 10 in the Service of God, Service of Community and Service of Country, 80 Years of Thanksgiving and Grace.”

It brought together members of the Order, Court 5, senior officers, church leaders and invited guests in full regalia to mark the beginning of celebrations for the oldest councils of the Noble Order in the Greater Accra Region.

Speaking at the launch, the Grand Knight of Council 10, Brother Emmanuel MacLean Ofori, said the anniversary was a moment of thanksgiving and reflection on the council’s long history of service.

He said Council 10 was consecrated in Accra on August 18, 1946, and would officially turn 80 years on August 18, 2026.

Mr Ofori added that the commemoration marks decades of building a strong reputation over the years as a premier council within the Noble Order.

He commended the St. Paul Catholic Church for being one of the strong pillars supporting the growth and progress of Council 10.

Chairman of the occasion, Sir Knight Brother Andrew Quayson, delivered the main address, tracing the humble beginnings of the Council, saying it was consecrated in a classroom at St. Mary’s Primary School, Korle Gonno, Accra with a chartered membership of 12, including a priest.

According to him, Council 10 has grown into a vibrant body with about 150 members and now meets in its own purpose-built Marshallan Temple at Okponglo in Accra.

Sir Knight Brother Quayson said the Council had played a major role in expanding the Order in Greater Accra, noting that it had directly and indirectly helped to establish 22 councils in the region.

He added that Council 10 had also produced three substantive Supreme Knights and had won the Best Council award six times, more than any other council in the Noble Order.

He said the achievements reflected the sacrifice, commitment and dedication of the founding fathers and generations of members who served the council.

Activities

As part of the anniversary activities, the chairman unveiled the official logo of the celebrations during the launch. This will be followed by a gospel rock show on July 3.

He added that there would also be a candlelight procession and rosary recitation on August 17, 2026, from the Emmanuel Eye Clinic at Shiashie in Accra to Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Ogbonglo.

He noted that the celebration will climax on August 23, 2026, with a thanksgiving Mass to be led by the Catholic Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend John Bonaventure Kwofie Cssp, followed by an anniversary banquet at the St Anthony Multipurpose Centre.

Sir Knight Quayson said the activities would not only celebrate the council’s past but also renew unity among members and inspire continued service to the Catholic Church, community and country.

The Council also donated an amount of GHS20, 000 to support the St Paul Catholic Church in its developmental activities.
