Amanfoo ’97 undertakes accommodation project

The 1997, year group of the Prempeh College ( Amanfoo 97) has begun the construction of a GH¢1 million four-units two-bedroom accommodation for staff of the school.

The legacy project is expected to be completed next year to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the group.

Last Saturday, a ceremonial sod-cutting was held at the school in Kumasi to officially mark the commencement of work.

Some members of the year’s group were joined by the school authorities and some students for the ceremony.

Cherished dream

In an address, the General Secretary of Amanfoo 97, Mr Victor Addai-Owusu, said the executive council of the group was very happy to see a cherished dream come into reality.

He said the idea to give back to their alma mater was conceived during their 20th anniversary, where they had a mentorship session for the final year students and donated different types of reading materials to the college’s library amounting to over GH¢ 15,000.

“Having achieved that feat, it became obvious that our 25th anniversary give away must be bigger than our 20th so a number of proposals were put on the table which included construction of modern Astro Turf pitch, construction of indoor games arena or to construct an accommodation facility to accommodate our hard-working teachers,” he said.

He added: “I was particularly happy because I, being a teacher, know  what it takes to find accommodation in Kumasi with its exorbitant  rent advance.”

Mr Addai-Owusu expressed the hope that the project would go a long way to motivate the teachers to put in their best and also help check students who break bounds.

Involvement

The general-secretary said the drawings for the project were done by one of the members of the group, Mr Timothy Adjetey, who is an architect, while another team was tasked to raise the needed funds for the project.

“The project is being funded through the contributions of the 1997 year group members as well as donations from benevolent corporate institutions and individuals,” he said, adding that they were on course to deliver the project on schedule .

Gratitude

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Aaron Atuah Gyewu, expressed gratitude to the group for deciding to solve a peculiar problem with the school, which was staff accommodation.
