2 KNUST students awarded for academic excellence

Two second year students of the Department of Construction Technology and Management (CTM) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have received a laptop computer each for outstanding academic performance in the 2019/20 academic year.

Miss Annabel Dompeh and Mr Evans Boateng outshone their peers with Grade Point Averages (GPA) of 76 and 72 respectively in the year’s academic work.

The award was based on a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between KNUST and Domod Roof Limited to promote industry-academia collaboration between the two parties.

Event

The Provost of the College of Arts and Built Environment, Professor John Tiah Bugri, yesterday received the laptops and handed them over to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Mrs Rita Akosua Dickson.

Also present at the ceremony were the Dean of International Programmes, KNUST, Professor Rexford Assasie Oppong; and the Head of Department of CTM, Professor Bernard Baiden.

The Managing Director of Domod, Mr Fred Kwofie, said the company would continue to support students who excel in their academic fields.

He noted that the company’s doors were opened for continuing students and graduates of KNUST for internship and national service opportunities in order to expose them to the work environment.

New era

Prof Abugri commended Domod for honouring its pledge to support the students, saying the laptops had come at an opportune time when the COVID-19 pandemic had compelled teaching and learning processes via virtual platforms.

He said a laptop was no longer a luxury but a key requirement in today’s academic tools, and urged the beneficiary students to put them to good use.
