Build depth, acquire knowledge - Telecel CEO urges Academic City graduates

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telecel Ghana, Patricia Obo-Nai, has urged the graduating class of 2024 of the Academic City University College (ACityGh), to strive for depth and knowledge in their careers and personal pursuits.

She spoke as a guest speaker at the university's third graduation ceremony held on their campus in Agbogba, Accra. Drawing from her own experiences, Ms Obo-Nai encouraged the graduates to “push boundaries, stay determined in their careers, take on additional roles, remain teachable and humble, be team players, build leadership skills, learn management skills and maintain relationships”.

Other key speakers included a representative of the Vice-Chancellor for the University of Cape Coast, Prof Joseph Tuffour Kwarteng; the Vice Chancellor of the University of Mines and Technology, Prof. Richard Amankwah; the University's Founder, Mr Dev Varyani; the University’s President, Prof. Fred McBagonluri, and the Dean of Student and Community Affairs, Dr Abena Engmann, along with other senior officers.

Addressing the graduates, Mr Varyani expressed confidence in the institution's progress and its societal impact, noting its focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), entrepreneurship and ethics.

He thanked his team and the students for their dedication over the past four years, saying, "Even as we celebrate your accomplishments, we remain excited for the real-life adventures you will undertake from here. Embrace the future with enthusiasm and stay connected with the university through our alumni groups.

Adding his voice, Prof. McBagonluri reflected on the graduates’ journeys and the values that would guide them in the future. He emphasised the importance of empathy, grit, patience, relevance, perseverance, skills and self-awareness as pillars crucial for their success.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, Dr Engmann congratulated the graduates, celebrating their hard work, resilience and growth. She emphasised the importance of gratitude, urging them to stay true to their passions and values and to appreciate the support they received from their families, friends, and dedicated faculty and staff.

Sharing his insights as the Overall Best Student (Valedictorian) and winner of the Citizen Award, Kwabena Afari Boateng encouraged his fellow graduates to “make their mark”.

The university also recognised academic achievements, awarding six top-ranking students in various disciplines, including Business Administration, Communication and Engineering.

Other students also bagged Special Awards, including Beverlyn Naa Merley Markwei-Sawyer for the Community Service Award, Tioyem Yintali Abii for the School Spirit Award, and David Mawutor Mensah for the Leadership and Legacy Award.

Also Louisa Ayamga for the Founder’s Award, as well as Best Student in Engineering Award, and Kwabena Afari Boateng for the President’s Award, City Award and Overall Best Student Award.
