The pavilion facility, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year, has 24 offices, lecture and examination halls. Additionally, the university Student Representative Council (SRC) is constructing walkways to improve movement, while the alumni is set to construct a police post to improve the security situation on campus.

The university said the provision of the infrastructure was crucial because it had received accreditation to run other new academic programmes, which was expected to increase the its enrollment.

Currently, the University has a population of about 5,528 students, with about 97 lecturers. When the Daily Graphic visited the university of last Friday, contractors working on the 600 capacity pavilion and walkways were on site busily working.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Daniels Obeng-Ofori, told the Daily Graphic that they had targeted to complete the pavilion project by the end of December.

Law faculty

Prof. Obeng-Ofori said the university was set to commence operation of a Faulty of Law next year, saying, "plans are far advanced to commence the Faculty of Law either in January or August next year."

He said the university had developed the curriculum and appointed the Dean of the Faculty, explaining that the curriculum had already been submitted to the Judicial Council for approval, before sending it to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) for the final approval.

Prof. Obeng-Ofori expressed the hope that all the processes would be completed this year for the commencement of academic activities next year.

PhD programmes

He said the university had developed several other new academic programmes, including PhD programmes to increase enrolment and meet the needs of industry as well as the national developmental agenda.

He said this month (August 2024), CUG would start four PhD programmes, namely; PhD in Educational Psychology, PhD in Administration and Strategic Leadership in Education, PhD in Management Studies, and Doctor of Business Administration.

Prof. Obeng-Ofori said CUG had also received accreditation to start Mphil in Mathematics Education, English Education and BSc Physiotherapy, among others.

Walkways

Prof. Obeng-Ofori said the construction of the walkways initiated by the SRC would help improve movement, particularly during the rainy season, adding that the project was in three phases. The phase one of the project was near completion.

He said the university alumni had also agreed to construct a police post to improve security situation on campus.

Chatter

Prof. Obeng-Ofori said the University received a Presidential Charter, granting it autonomy as an institution that could award its certificates in 2022. He said since the University was granted the charter, it had witnessed significant developments, including increase in student enrollment.

Prof. Obeng-Ofori said the charter had enabled the University to provide and award its own certificates to graduates. He said all the graduates, who successfully completed their programmes in October 2023 received the University certificates on the same day of their graduation.

"I think that is a very significant achievement," he said.
