IET-GH calls for urgent infrastructure support for Tamale Technical University
The President of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, Ghana (IET-GH), Henry Kwadwo Boateng, has made a passionate appeal to the Ministry of Education and the Management of Tamale Technical University (TaTU) to urgently address the university’s infrastructure challenges.
He made the call during the induction ceremony of newly qualified engineering professionals held at the university campus in Tamale.
Mr Boateng expressed deep concern about the state of facilities at the TaTU, describing the current infrastructure as inadequate and unconducive for effective teaching and learning.

He noted that despite the university's strategic location and its critical role in the delivery of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), basic infrastructure such as paved internal roads and well-maintained facilities remains lacking.
"It is disheartening that a leading technical university such as the TaTU cannot boast a of single tarred road on campus. "The environment is not user-friendly and this has serious implications for the quality of technical education," he lamented.
The IET-GH president, who is a strong advocate for the advancement of TVET, emphasised that investing in infrastructure for technical institutions was vital to the country’s industrialisation and development agenda.

Mr Boateng urged the Ministry of Education to prioritise the TaTU in the allocation of resources and called on the university management to adopt a proactive maintenance culture.
He also encouraged the judicious use of Internally Generated Funds (IGFs) to improve and sustain existing facilities.
“TVET holds the key to Ghana’s future. If we are serious about transforming our economy through industrial and technical innovation, then we must first ensure our training institutions are adequately resourced," Mr Boateng stressed.
The ceremony marked another important milestone for the engineering profession in Ghana, as new practitioners were formally inducted into the fold, with a charge to uphold professionalism, innovation and integrity in their various fields of practice.
